I’m going to see Synecdoche, New York tonight, but maybe I should consult with Greg first...

Hey Greg and Lisa. Well I have NO idea what that score is. I guess I don’t recognize scores unless it’s the theme of Empire Strikes Back being played when Dick Cheney walks into a room.

But as always I enjoy the Greg Postles Oscar Poll! It would be great if you could provide a “Miscellaneous Snubs” column. To me the biggest snub this year was for Best Song - Springsteen for “The Wrestler” I don’t even understand the snub because they only nominated three songs!

It was bugging me so much. I knew I had heard it before, but I couldn’t remember seeing the movie. Suddenly it occurred to me that the reason I remembered it is because it has been used for the montage clip at the beginning of the Oscar ceremony. Well, it only took me a minute of googling after that to get the answer. You can find out anything on the “internets.” answers.yahoo.com

So do I get the $787 billion prize?

Hi Greg,
So what did you think of the Oscars?
I liked the past winners’ affirmations for the 2008 contenders. Saves therapy costs.

I laughed when the documentaries and shorts were being announced and the young star of “Slumdog Millionaire” looked around as if he was thinking, “We can’t win this too?”.

All in all, I was entertained. You, too?

February 23, 2009

Thanks for the poll fun Lisa and Greg. I want to know which ones Cami got wrong :)

Also I wonder what it says about the poll this year that you needed 21/24 in order to win when in previous years you could potentially win with a score of 17. Does it mean that the Oscars were more predictable this year, or the Greg Postles pollsters are getting smarter??

Let’s not forget about luck playing a huge role in the outcome of the poll as well! Speaking of luck, I need to run and buy some powerball tix!

Have an absolutely FABULOUS day and remember what Susan B. Anthony had to say: “Sooner or later we all discover that the important moments in life are not the advertised ones, not the birthdays, the graduations, the weddings, not the great goals achieved. The real milestones are less prepossessing. They come to the door of memory unannounced, stray dogs that amble in, sniff around a bit and simply never leave. Our lives are measured by these.”

At our age we all need a laugh everyday. Hope this gives you a chuckle. Instead of the traditonal birthday song a group of my friends sang one to me with the lyrics as follows:
Put another wrinkle in your birthday suit,
your birthday suit,
your birthday suit.
Put another wrinkle in your birthday suit,
Because today you’re another year older.

Anyway, have a great day, you deserve it.

Dear Greg,

For some crazy reason I was compelled to buy a gift for you. As I was perusing antiques in an unnamed location, I spotted this unusual piece and immediately thought of you! I brought it to Ed and Darlene and, of course Ed with his never ending enthusiasm and admiration of you, wanted to mail it pronto.
Since its breakable, we wrapped it with care and tucked it away for your next visit.
To the Northwoods!
Why did I think of you at that very moment?
Coincidence that Lisa emailed me that your birthday falls on that same day? I don’t think so!
Your birthday vibes are being felt all over the state! They just about knocked me over in that shop!

Best wishes and happy birthday!

Barb, Ed, and Darlene, your friends who are “colder by the lake.”

Eh, he’s okay. Haha, I’m only kidding. We’re lucky to have such a caring & involved dad who has taught us the value of hard work and keeping an accurately balanced check book! :) We spent the afternoon yesterday at Pioneer Village, where, I’m sure he’s told you, his family’s house is...so that was neat. Hope things are going well with you & Lisa, & you’re finding time to enjoy the summer...now that it’s finally here!

Fact:
The Scientific name of the Japanese Red-crowned crane is Grus japonensis. The Indigenous Ainu people called them ‘Sarurun Kamui’ or ‘God of the marsh’. These are the type of cranes that Sadako folded hundreds of in the hospital during her effort to make 1,000 paper cranes. These are the meanings referenced in the name of recently-founded aid organization ‘Project Sarurun’, which uses the auction of a paper crane ‘chandelier’ as the centerpiece of its effort to, each year, benefit a particular charity hand-selected for its innovation and efficiency in aiding children of war-torn areas.

Hi Greg,
Hope you’re doing well. You certainly have a slew of friends, including me of course, who are keeping you in their thoughts and prayers.

As related to the golf tournament, I have a friend who has been invited for years and has only come once, but he can’t remember how he met you and Lisa. Does his name ring a bell? Marc Boutet. He’s french and used to work for Chrysler. He also has a son Remi and the invitation has been addressed to both of them.

This should keep your mind busy for awhile. Give me a call and let me know if you figure it out.

Thanks!
Shelly 870-3061.

It’s easy to see why. Please don’t let me forget to give you our address tomorrow--the golf picnic sounds like fun.

Gregg, Sorry we missed your birthday back on the second of July. Hope it was terrific. We’re a little bit over-extended of late, but should make time for friends; however distant. There is no doubt that the world is a better place because of you. Have a great year! May God bless you and keep you in the palm of his hands, may the road rise up to greet you and may the sun shine always on your back... This latter part would have been a sentiment from my dearly departed dad, Lee McQuade, whom you travelled with in Ireland oh so many years ago.

Hi Greg! I have met Lisa through my friend, Mary Koehler, who is in a book club with her.
I had prostate surgery in Jan 2005. (My brother, who is 3 1/2 years younger, had the surgery 7 years before I did.) I was 57 when I had the surgery. I am assuming that you will wear a Foley catheter for 2 weeks. That was honestly the worst of it for me. Just resign yourself to the fact that it is there. I spent 2 weeks going from the recliner, to the bathroom, to bed, and back.
At the end of 2 weeks, I felt so good, that I went to a movie on the way home from getting the catheter taken out(it doesn’t hurt coming out). I experienced only the slightest bit of incontinence, a dribble or two if I coughed or sneezed. After a week or so, even that went away. Does everything work now? Yes. Not as good as it did, but it’s okay. I haven’t had any sign of the cancer. Neither has my brother. (My dad is 90 and has had prostate cancer for years; he had the radioactive seeds implanted, because of his being much older when diagnosed.)
Hopefully this note will help you get through the next few days. I can honestly say that your recovery 2 weeks, just resting and wearing that catheter, are the worst of it, and it isn’t bad...If you would want to ask me any questions, feel free to call me at 262-470-1004 or email at rdanielson4@wi.rr.com
Best wishes, and I hope the 2 weeks go quickly.

Dear Greg,
A voice from the distant past wishing you a speedy recovery!!!! I, too, am facing a prostate surgery in the near future. To date, I think that “they” think that it is benign hypertrophy. Nonetheless, no guy wants to be tinkered on between the navel and the knees!!! Lisa says that your medical team is confident in the very good outcome of your surgery. ---- Be very gentle with yourself, both physically and emotionally. It takes a long time to completely heal up. Don’t lift anything heavier than your doctors direct. (Let Lisa do the heavy lifting!!) Get plenty of rest and good nutrition. --- When your recovery is far enough along, please call me and I will take you and Lisa out to Beans and Barley for dinner (very healthful foods!)
All the best ----

Hi Greq & Lisa,
Hope all is well with you and glad the surgery went well. I’m still a little mystified and somewhat jealous of all the attention you’re getting. Not jealous enough to let a group of strange men cut me up and play with my stuff but jealous enough to let some of the beautiful hostess’ into my cyberworld. Enjoyed seeing and meeting everyone at the tournament, especially Lisa.
Take care of yourself, because I want to see how long you can keep all this up.
