For the second time in tournament history, the men’s competition ended in a tie, with Mark Lucius and Mike Shovers posting even par rounds of 54. In the ensuing “sudden death” playoff, each player scored par 3 on the first hole. Shovers won the tournament with a par on the second hole, where Lucius recorded a bogey. Shovers had previously won the first tournament playoff in 1995.

This marked the fifth consecutive men’s division championship for Mike Shovers. Mark Lucius has won six previous men’s division championships. Mark is the only golfer who has played every hole in all 17 tournaments at Lake Park. Dennis Boom, who finished third this year, is also a former men’s division champion having earned a place on the Currie Cup five times

Becky Lundsten won the women’s division championship in her first appearance at the Greg Postles Lake Park Golf Invitational. Becky is a good friend of Rosemary Whalen, who has participated in many previous Greg Postles Lake Park Golf Invitationals. Former women’s division champions Katie Kaul and Lisa Postles finished second and third respectively.

Once again, Tania Weimer, Jackie Ott and Cathy Taft served as hostesses. Jeri Liebergen and Rhonda Beck lent a hand as first-time hostesses and did a very splendid job, indeed. Greg Jedrzejewski and Virgil Guenther volunteered their time as chefs in the picnic area. For the 17th consecutive year, it did not rain at the Greg Postles Lake Park Golf Invitational.
